Wenita was pleased to have some of our crews and staff recognised at the Southern Wood Council’s annual Forestry Awards at the Forsyth Barr Stadium on Friday, May 24.

Forestry managers, contractors, transport operators and service and product suppliers gathered to celebrate people receiving nine major industry awards and those receiving their national training certificates.

Wenita supported the nomination of five contractors/companies for a variety of awards and three of our contractors ended up taking out first place. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Wenita sponsored the Forestry Excellence Award (establishment, silviculture, fire, harvesting) which was won by Forestry Training Services’ Bill Tredinnick.

About 160 National Training Certificates in Forestry and Wood Processing were awarded, including several to Wenita staff and contractors. Eight harvesting apprentices who have been involved in Mike Hurring’s training school in Balclutha were also recognised at the awards ceremony; two of the apprentices are from Wenita crews.

Presenters and speakers at this year’s awards evening included the host of the rural radio show The Country, Jamie MacKay, and Davey Hughes, the founder of outdoor clothing brand, SWAZI.
