At the start of this year, C3’s Dunedin checkpoint rolled out its new semi-automated scaling system called COM3TS:
It was designed by the C3 Ltd technical team and works by taking a photo of a log face and then immediately uses an advanced algorithm to find the shortest and longest measurements through the geometric centre of the log. These measurements are combined with the log length and then converted into an accurate JAS measurement for the log. This is either sent directly to the C3 Ltd inventory system or, if COM3TS picks up any type of anomaly on the log (e.g. sloven), it is sent to a validation program where a certified scaler can manually adjust the log measurements to cater for the anomaly.
COM3TS enable scaling of greater accuracy and consistency with faster scaling/truck turn-around and tracking of inventory.
