Safe Start Breakfast gets 2021 underway

On Tuesday, January 12, Wenita held its annual Safe Start Breakfast at the Taieri Rugby Club with all harvesting, silviculture, roading and transport crews. This year more than 180 people attended.
Wenita CEO David Cormack kicked off the event with some safety messages and was followed by Woodflow Manager Alec Cassie, who introduced the main guest speaker Therese Gibbens from The Drug Detection Agency (TDDA). Therese spoke about managing the risks of drug and alcohol use (and abuse) in our workplace.
The second guest speaker was Paul Solomon from WorkSafe, who talked about the types of things WorkSafe will be focussing on this year.
Alec, David and Technical Manager James McEwan presented the 2020awards for Health and Safety and Top Spot, plus certificates to the Professional Tree Fallers.
Logging and Operations Manager Grant Kenneally wrapped the morning up by thanking the sponsors and adding a few final reminders about near miss reporting, forest security and weekend work.
